FAQ

What is Industrial Hemp?
There are many different varieties of the cannabis plant. Hemp — also called industrial hemp — refers to the non-psychoactive (less than 1% THC) varieties of Cannabis sativa L. Both hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, but are genetically distinct and are further distinguished by use, chemical makeup, and cultivation methods.
Why Hemp?
The industrial, medicinal and commercial properties of hemp have been known for a very long time, but its benefits to the environment have just been realized in recent years. Many industries looking for sustainable and eco-friendly processes are turning to hemp. Its cultivation does not need any particular climate or soil, and is thus found in all parts of the world.
What can Hemp do?
Hemp can be grown as a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products. Its seeds and flowers are used in health foods, organic body care, and other nutrients for the body.
How do they get fabric from Hemp?
The plant consists of an inner layer called the pith surrounded by woody core fiber, which is often referred as hurds. Bast fibers form the outer layer. The primary bast fiber is attached to the core fiber by pectin—a glue-like substance. The primary fibers are used for textiles, cordage, and fine paper products.

What is your hemp cord polished with?

What is the difference between hemp twine and cord?
The difference is in how they are made. Hemp twine is made with less strands of fiber than cord and may be uneven in thickness and have fly aways. Hemp cord is round and even in thickness throughout the strand with no flyaways making it the best choice for high quality macrame jewelry.
What is Prop 65 and how does it affect you?
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted as a ballot initiative in November 1986. The proposition protects the state's drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals. Because of this, Hemptique uses AZO free, acid free and lead free dyes on all of its products making them safe for children and animals.
