Flax Sliver for Spinning, Blending and Fiber Arts
What is Flax Sliver? After bast fibers are hackled or carded, they are arranged in a continuous ribbon-like band of fibers called a sliver. This sliver can then be further combed, blended and made narrower and more consistent in size in preparation for spinning.
Flax Sliver for Industrial (Plumbing) Use: Hackled flax for sealing metal threads and fittings. Quality flax can be used at temperatures up to 160 degrees in heating and water supply systems, as well as for steam systems. Does not cause allergies and traps bacteria. Hackled flax is one of the best sealants for plumbing works. Flax swells when it comes into contact with water. This increases its volume, blocking any drips or leaks.

Spinning Flax is a wonderful experience but there are many uses for this miracle fiber. Flax is the stalk of a plant that is used for fiber. Making it a cellulose or bast fiber. Flax is very similar to hemp, jute, and ramie. Once flax is spun it is called linen. It can be woven into fabrics, knitted/crocheted into summer garments. Spin finely and you'll have beautiful lace to be knitted or crocheted into table clothes, curtains, etc. . .
